Meet
Rachel

Early beginnings
Rachel has been interested in health and wellness for almost as long as she can remember. Her father worked as a doctor and she watched her mother work out to Jane Fonda aerobics videos from her infant carrier as a baby (or so she is told). As a dedicated cross country runner in middle and High School, she found it fascinating how the foods she consumed affected her athletic performance. When she learned that her grandmother had become a Dietitian after raising her sons in the 1970s, Rachel was motivated and inspired to pursue this career path for herself. She graduated from Cornell University in 2009 with a degree in Nutritional Sciences, and went on to complete her Dietetic Internship in New York City in 2010.
New journeys
As she began working with patients, she discovered that the nutrition plans and lifestyle changes she prescribed were not actually leading to a state of overall “well being” in the long (or sometimes even short) term. People struggled to stick to rigid food & exercise guidelines- inevitably leading to feelings of failure, frustration, and discouragement. It became clear that focusing on the physical body alone- especially lifestyle modifications aimed at promoting weight loss- did not help people to be truly healthy & well. This realization coincided with Rachel’s growing interest in Buddhism and meditation, elucidating more subtle energetic aspects of mind & body which she came to learn were inextricably linked to physical health- and also mostly overlooked in her western healthcare training.

By sitting in stillness and exploring the nature of her mind, Rachel began to explore and uncover more about her personal relationship with food, nutrition, and body image. She began to notice how this relationship actually caused a good deal of suffering in her life, manifesting in several different ways including orthorexia (obsession with eating only “healthy” foods), injury from overexercise, and physical discomfort from binging on foods that she had restricted during times of attempting to eat “healthy.” Her efforts to be healthy and "well" were ironically leading to suffering and disease- the opposite of what she wanted for herself and others.

Arrival
This path of mind-body exploration led Rachel to the practices of Mindfulness Based & Intuitive Eating. These frameworks built upon what she had been starting to uncover in her meditation practice- that she had been prioritizing externally imposed food, eating, and exercise rules & regimens above her own body’s innate wisdom, needs, and desires. Relying mainly on external factors to inform her lifestyle choices in a pursuit of health (and ostensibly subsequent happiness/wellbeing) didn't leave much time or space to honor her inner landscape- one that turned out to be rich with information on how to live in a way that felt much more healthy, balanced, and authentic.
Further investigation into this inner world and the Intuitive Eating framework lead Rachel to realize that her pursuit of health had been enmeshed with a drive to achieve societally-imposed and deeply engrained beauty & body image standards, disempowering and disconnecting her from her body's own unique rhythms and needs. This ultimate conflation of being "healthy" with being accepted had obscured her original desire to live & feel well, and to help others do the same.
Rachel went on to become certified as an Intuitive Eating Counselor as well as an Ayurvedic and Reiki Practitioner, and is now committed to a personal & professional practice of fostering holistic nourishment to support health and wellness of the whole self extending beyond just the physical body. Rachel gently ushers clients along a path of self-discovery, incorporating her professional knowledge and guidance to bolster each unique experience. She cares deeply about supporting others' journeys in feeling balanced in body, mind, and spirit, and discovering what true nourishment means for them.
